Saints want points, not a backlog of games

St Martin’s boss Leon Meakin is looking forward to seeing his side play some more fixtures – if the weather allows.

Tonight Saints go to Northfield with the hopes of continuing their unbeaten run in the FNB Priaulx League and returning to the top.

‘North are a good team and are always difficult,’ said Meakin of the one side to have taken points off them in the league so far this season thanks to a goalless draw at Blanche Pierre Lane in September.

‘It should be a pretty even game. There are so many difficult games in the season that we can’t take any of them lightly.’

Today’s match, which kicks off at 7.30pm, will mark the halfway point in the campaign for Saints.

‘Hopefully it will be on – we have a lot of games to play, having only played eight so far,’ said Meakin.

‘This is our penultimate game before Christmas so it will be good to get these two league games before Christmas done.

‘Because we didn’t play Saturday I am looking at team selection slightly differently, as if we had played on Saturday we would be rotating players more.’

Saints currently sit second in the table, three points behind Vale Rec, who have played four more games than Meakin’s men.

‘It is important now for us to get as many points on the board as possible. It’s all right having games in hand, but what we need is points on the board and a consistent run of fixtures,’ he said.
