Another last-gasp goal denies GFC win
GUERNSEY FC were left gutted on Saturday as Ascot United equalised with virtually the last kick of the game to deny the Green Lions a precious away win.
The struggling visitors had come under sustained pressure through the second half after stunning their fourth-placed hosts by taking a three-goal half-time lead in their Isthmian South Central clash at the Ascot Racecourse ground, but having seen their advantage whittled down to a single goal, GFC seemed set to hold out for a crucial victory in the context of their season.
However, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Khalid Simmo bundled home at a corner to salvage a 3-3 draw for the home side.
GFC, who had Seb Vance on the bench as he is back for Christmas from college in the US, had opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game when Matt Loaring headed home Charlton Gauvain’s free-kick.
Moments later, a loose Ascot pass at the back was intercepted by Ross Allen and he chipped in their second.
GFC were in dreamland three minutes before half-time when the combination who conjured their first struck for the second time, this time Loaring nodding in Gauvain’s corner, to make it 3-0.
Ascot responded by piling on the pressure after the turnaround, with GFC managing to soak it up until Ben Harris scored with a spectacular bicycle kick on 75min.
He scored again just a couple of minutes later to set up a grandstand finish in which Simmo broke GFC hearts.

Calleigh Hedley scored a hat-trick and there were also goals for Candice Bougourd and Elise Le Lacheur plus an own goal when Gracia Van Zupthen's shot was deflected in.
