Bain is on a roll as he enters all-time top 10
CHRIS BAIN has continued his distance-running hot streak by entering the island’s all-time top 10 for the classic Full Course.
The 21-year-old won yesterday’s Boxing Day Cross-Country in 24min. 47sec., which is particularly quick for this festive period – typically the faster times come in the Easter and summer renditions of the 4.75-mile lap of L’Ancresse.
Not even two weeks after becoming Guernsey’s second-quickest 10km runner ever with a brisk run in Telford, the former 800m specialist further cemented his place among the island’s distance greats with this triumph over Richard Bartram (25-21) and Rick Weston (25-43).
‘I’m happy – it’s a good time and a good little confidence booster, again, as I’ve got some big races coming up, the likes of Hampshire [Championships] and the British Cross up in Scotland,’ he said.
‘Lots of big races and it’s all about just keeping the momentum going, and I’ll see what happens.’
U20 athlete Jack Rees finished fourth in a big personal best of 26-01.
On the women’s side, Nix Petit defied recent illness to outduel up-and-coming rival Eloise Scholes.
She secured her third Boxing Day win on the trot in 31-04, warding off her young challenger by 12sec.
Teenage triathlete Hannah Kennedy completed the women’s podium in 33-20.
