Black’s omission surprises Vance

TONY VANCE says there is no such thing as a ‘non-event’ game for his Guernsey FC team, especially with the Muratti looming.

Vance’s side say farewell to the Footes Lane crowd for another season at home to Phoenix Sports tomorrow and he wants to right the wrongs of Tuesday’s unfair result and continue the positive end to the campaign.

‘I’ve said for a while I wanted a positive end and generally we have.

‘Tuesday was disappointing because we battered them. It was a really good performance.

‘But we’ve got tomorrow and tough away games to finish and I don’t want to finish with four losses.

‘It is not a nothing game and there’s also a small thing around the corner of a Muratti.’

Talking of which.

With Muratti spots still to be secured, Vance says he is surprised that the in-form Ryan-Zico Black has not made the training squad having shown great form in recent weeks.

‘He never ceases to surprise me and he keeps bouncing back. For that I’ve got the utmost respect for him.

‘We now can measure things like the amount they run and his stats are very high. He’s beating everybody. But at the end of the day, I don’t pick the team.’

Vance expects to have Frank Tobin and Dom Heaume back for tomorrow’s game, but Liam Mahon is unavailable and Harry Tobin and Charlton Gauvain are very doubtful.

Tobin has a knee problem and Gauvain is still suffering from the dead leg which he picked up in the U21s Muratti.
