MILES MUNRO has produced the performance of his career to equal a British record in winning his maiden national gold medal.
The 16-year-old clocked a 50m freestyle time of 23.37sec. at the British Gas National Youth Championships in Sheffield, equalling the mark set by James Burden in the 15-16 age category.
It was also the second time in the day that he lowered his own island long-course record, the previous mark of 24.08 first being dropped to 23.77 in the heats.
Munro defeated Alex Bowen in a close battle to win the race and the Sarnian was delighted at his impressive performance. 'I have been training hard for this and I am pleased that this has come as a result of that,' he said.
