ALISON MERRIEN strolled to the top of section two after just one embarrassingly one-sided qualifying group match at the 2008 World Cup in Warilla, New South Wales.

The Guernsey star, pictured, walloped Portugal's Mary Banks 25-0, 20-1 for a plus 44 shots difference at the end of day one.

Ian Merrien, Alison's husband, had an up and down opening day, with an easy win over Portugal's Stewart Banks before losing to the Aussie-based Maltese player, Shaun Parnis.
