Those seeking last-minute flights may be disappointed

Travellers will struggle to find any available flights to southern and midlands airports later this week, as half term holiday-makers fill the planes to capacity.

The States schools break up on Friday, while the private colleges break up on Thursday.

This always leads to a busy time at the ports, but the strain on plane services will mean that any last-minute travellers will struggle to find seats.

Yesterday all 18 services from Guernsey to Gatwick on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are showing as fully booked, as were the five flights to London City on Thursday and Friday.

On the other side of southern England, all flights to Bristol are showing as full on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, while up in the Midlands, there is no room on flights to Birmingham on Thursday, Friday or Sunday – there are no Saturday services on either of these routes.

Looking at Southampton, there are no Aurigny seats available on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, while Blue Islands is showing as having no seats on Friday services.

This means the only southern service showing with seats on Friday is the morning service to Exeter.

And all those travellers will be coming back the following weekend.

Six of the nine services from London on Friday 28 February are sold out, while there are no seats to be found for services from London on the Saturday or Sunday at the end of half term.

There is less strain on the Southampton route, with only the last flights on Friday 28, Saturday 1 March and Sunday 2 March having sold out.

The strong demand comes as Aurigny operates its always-popular ski flights to Grenoble, with two out of three Saturday flights to the southern French airport having sold out.

The demand issue does not seem to be affecting Manchester services, with seats available on nearly all flights this week.

Aurigny spokesman said it had seen an ‘extremely positive uptake’ in customer bookings over half term.

‘We remind everyone looking to travel in busy periods, such as Easter and summer, to book ahead of time to secure their seats at the best prices,' he said.

All five of Aurigny’s ATR planes were back in service yesterday, after some technical and servicing issues in recent weeks.

For those travelling this weekend, Guernsey Met Office said it was not expecting much disruption from the weather.

‘No fog is expected at this point of time up until Saturday,’ a spokesman said.

‘It is possible, that it could be misty at times, but this shouldn’t effect operations.’

For those desperate to travel to the south coast, this is still room on ferry services.

There is availability for cars and foot passenger services this weekend on both the fast and slow services on Friday and Saturday.
