CRAIG DOREY was close to death nine months ago, but this week represents Guernsey at the world under-25 indoor bowls championships after a remarkable recovery.

In January, Dorey (pictured) suffered a life-threatening aortic aneurysm.

'On 10 January I went round to my mate's to watch the football and six weeks later I woke up in Southampton Hospital,' said the 25-year-old, before flying off to Scotland for the worlds.

After emerging from a coma, Dorey spent a further month in hospital and then a substantial amount of time recuperating.

But, remarkably, he has now fully recovered to be able to take part in the World Indoor Bowls Council age-group event which gets under way today at Auchinleck Indoor Bowls Club in Ayrshire.

'I'm just getting myself back to normal.'
