GUERNSEY'S team were feeling the full force of the Commonwealth challenge yesterday.

Heather Watson's tournament and outside medal hopes ended in a heavy defeat by the gold medal favourite from Australia, while top swimmer Ian Powell made the semis of the 100m butterfly only to finish seventh.

All the while, the mosquitos had a feast day and stories of upset stomachs across the teams became more widespread.

There was at least some good news from the running track.

The heat and dust of India is suiting Dale Garland.

Ever since he set foot in Delhi his ability to train better and faster has improved and his niggles have eased.
