German defeats Watson

HEATHER WATSON'S race to Luxembourg was in vain.

The Guernsey star lost in the first qualifying round for the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open to the German Sabine Lisicki, ranked more than a hundred places above the Sarnian at 102 in the world.

Watson (pictured) beat Lisicki 7-6, 6-2 in the recent Shrewsbury event, but this time the tables were turned and the German triumphed 7-6, 7-5.
