JOHN WATSON believes that enhanced fitness will be key for the island's top drivers to enhance their potential this motorsport season.

In racing terms, it all gets under way this afternoon with the first Guernsey Kart and Motor Club sprint along the Vazon coast quarter-mile. New club president Watson is predicting an exciting 2012.

'I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be a brilliant year. A lot of people have spent time and money enhancing their vehicles,' he said.

'But I also believe that people are realising the importance of personal fitness, just sitting in a car or on a bike is no longer enough.

'You will still be good, but it is all about getting that extra hundredth of a second here and there now to be the very best.'
