Glorious sunshine got the two-day event off to a good start, but by late afternoon rain and thunderstorms arrived, with the same forecast predicted for the Battle of Flowers today.

President Gary Trimbee-Laine was delighted with how it had all come together on the first day.

'The show is so deep in the roots of the island and it has been great to get the backing of the public and businesses to help us.

'It would be great if there were more people who were willing to come on-board and help, especially some new committee members to bring in new ideas.'

Giant vegetables, sweet treats and handmade crafts filled the exhibit tents, while children could be seen to be fascinated by the popular animal entries.

But it was the live entertainment, including sheep racing, the Guernsey Velo Club stunt team and world-class Australian quad biker 'Kangaroo Kid', that left the crowd in awe.
