In September 2015, the Allied Aircrew Memorial at the airport was dedicated in the presence of the air attaches of the six countries whose aircrew are remembered.

This year, the fifth anniversary, a short ceremony will take place at 4.30pm tomorrow by the memorial. The memorial itself, which commemorates the loss of 153 aircrew, is a showpiece for local industry.

It was conceived, designed, manufactured and erected by local enterprise and was funded by islanders and organisations.

The short ceremony will be attended by cadets from Elizabeth College CCF and 201 OS Squadron Guernsey Air Cadets.

Veterans of all services have been invited and the event is open to the public.

The cadets parade will be led by the Rev. Dave Knight, chaplain to the Guernsey Armed Forces Community.

Bailiff Richard McMahon will address the gathering, wreaths will be laid and the event will be closed with a flypast by an aircraft of the USAF.

President of the Guernsey branch of the RAFA, Alan Brunger, said: ‘It is important that we keep alive the memory of the sacrifice of the young men, many still in their teens, who fought in primitive aircraft to give us the freedom we enjoy today.’
