Taste of traditional at National Trust Christmas market
GUERNSEY people who were missing the happiness of this year’s cancelled Viaer Marchi will get a taste of the traditional market at tonight’s National Trust Christmas market.
The annual event will see the Folk & Costume Museum courtyard transformed into a Christmas market, with stalls both inside and out.
Museum manager Merrie Jee said the weather forecast was looking dry for the evening and she was hopeful it would go well.
There will be about 20 stalls.
The Guernsey Glee Singers will perform at 6.30pm and there will also be a Punch and Judy show.
‘We wanted to give people a nice taste of Christmas, as it has been a weird year,’ Miss Jee said.
‘It is nice to have something comforting like this. There will be bean jar and Guernsey biscuits [like the Viaer Marchi] but with the added bonus that it is Christmas, with lots of lights and mulled wine.’
Like many charities, it has been a challenging year for the trust. The Cornet Street shop has been shut for refurbishment and visitor numbers have been down due to coronavirus. Miss Jee said tonight’s market would be an important fundraiser for them. The market will kick off at 5pm and run throughout the evening. Parking will be available at both park car parks, but will be limited. Home Farm is currently not available for parking after recent bad weather.
People are advised to walk, get a lift or the bus, if possible.
n The market will take place tonight at the Folk & Costume Museum at Saumarez Park between 5pm and 8pm.
