Visiting comic to play locally this week
THE rarity of live act from outside the Bailiwick performing in the island should happen this evening if a Covid test permits.
Organisers of the Festival of Covid-Free Comedy had to delay their plans for a four-comedian event this week, but one of the proposed performers, comedienne Laura Lexx, was due to fly in from Brighton, via Gatwick, last night.
Connections with London scuppered chances of headliner Reginald D Hunter and other comedians performing, but Ms Lexx, who lives in Brighton, has had her travel history cleared for arrival. She will test this morning and isolate until a negative result is received.
Organiser Darren Vogel said he was pleased to be able to bring in one artist, and the trip would prove a useful test run for future visits from other comedians booked to perform.
All being well, Ms Lexx will perform at an intimate pub gig tonight for an invited audience, raising money for the Health Connections charity. Wednesday’s open show will take place at St Pierre Park Hotel, not Beau Sejour as originally planned for the full show. As of yesterday afternoon more than 50 people had registered at justthetonic.com/guernsey-comedy to book tickets.
Mr Vogel said the response for the idea of bringing London entertainment to the island had been very supportive. The full gigs planned for this week were two-thirds booked before they had to be cancelled due to Covid travel restrictions.
‘I’m pleased to get this show on and get people laughing,’ said Mr Vogel.
‘We’ve shown that the appetite is there. You don’t need to go to London for your entertainment, stay in Guernsey and we will bring it to you.’
