Deputy Dudley-Owen was given permission to make a statement to the Assembly late on Friday evening, when she admitted that a response to Gavin St Pier was ‘misleading’.

Deputy St Pier had asked for confirmation whether the Sixth Form staff would have to work across two sites when the post-16 pupils move to La Mare de Carteret, expected in 2025.

Deputy Dudley-Owen denied that on Wednesday, when the question was aired, but backtracked on Friday and told the States that she ‘misunderstood the question’.

‘During the transitional phase, when the new model is in its infancy, we will keep staff movements to a minimum, but for a small number of staff who will work at the Sixth Form Centre, wherever it is, they will also work in 11-16 schools,’ she said.

Who the teachers are will depend on a number of factors, she said, including timetable and subject demand from pupils.

Deputy Dudley-Owen hinted at the complexity of what she called the ‘operational process’ and though she admitted that ‘some politicians are interested in this level of detail’ made it clear she was not going to pursue it in any depth.

‘This is a highly complex subject and highly experienced officers and school leaders are those we should be trusting to manage this highly operational and logistical transition.’
