This will come into effect from September this year and replace the existing uniforms at Les Varendes and La Mare de Carteret High Schools.

Because this will involve new clothes, parents are being given a 75% subsidy to buy the new uniform and PE kit.

A means-tested uniform grant is also available.

The uniform was chosen by a group of students and teachers and principal Verona Tomlin has written a letter to all parents and guardians and said that the new school crest ‘embodies the vision of the group for the new school’s identity’.

The group included 20 students from Years 7-10 who were chosen from 75 who put themselves forward.

‘They have worked together over the last year, consulting with their peers and local uniform retailers to make sure they have been involved in the decisions made,’ Ms Tomlin said.

‘The group have thought carefully about many aspects of their new school and its culture and are keen to see the students from both sites feel part of their new shared environment.’

Ideas about the donation of used uniforms have also been developed and it is hoped that things like blazers and ties could be sent to charities which support schools in developing countries.

The students are now working with staff on the names of the new houses, the colours of which will be included in the school tie which will be mainly navy with a thin white stripe.

Black trousers or skirts and black smart shoes with a white long or short-sleeve shirt will complete the basic uniform.

PE kit will be black and sky blue or white polo shirt with the school logo, with the same colours for the sweatshirt, shorts or rugby shirt and white socks or sky blue football and hockey socks.

The principal’s letter said that the new uniforms will be available from retailers including Fletcher Sports and Game Changers.
