New president ‘feeling positive’ as West Show gets under way
A team of West Show committee members have been vital in supporting the show’s new president, ready for the start of the event this morning.
Having been involved in the show previously as both show manager and vice-president, Andre Mayor knows exactly what goes into putting on the West Show, but has admitted that he feels more responsibility now than ever before.
‘When organising it people have been coming to me to make decisions which is hard at first, but the committee members have made my life so much easier, and in total, with volunteers as well, we have had 76 people helping out in total,’ he said.
Mr Mayor said he was feeling optimistic about this year's show.
‘I can only do what I can do, and the rest is out of my control, but I am feeling positive,’ he said.
He has taken over from Mark Le Prevost, who has now been made honorary president in recognition for his services to the West Show.
The show starts today and this year they are welcoming new acts to join some West Show favourites. Headline entertainment comes from OG Spanish Horses – who are performing at the show for the first time this year – who will showcase a high adrenaline spectacle in the main arena.
They are joined by M. A. D. Team, the UK’s number one mountain bike aerial display team, the Madness Trampoline Wall is back with a new trampoline stunt show after having performed at the West Show in 2022, and Peter Leadbeater, a chainsaw carver who will be creating sculptures in live demonstrations.
Alongside the entertainment in the main arena, local professional bubbleologist Chloe Ferguson will be around the showground, lawnmower races will be taking place, as well as displays of vintage tractors, entries in the exhibit tent, family games, bean jar and the animal and livestock tent. Little Pickles will also be at the show with its kids karting track and chair-o-plane.
Live music will carry on into the evening in the beer tent today and tomorrow.
