Aurigny still playing catch up

AURIGNY was continuing to catch up from the weekend’s weather disruption yesterday.

For the second day the airline leased D-AASG, a Dash 8-400, to help catch-up on services, after only one flight – a Jersey rotation – took place over the weekend at Guernsey Airport.

Planes were packed on Monday, despite extra Gatwick and Southampton rotations. There were seven Gatwick rotations and 2,575 people passed through the airport, 30% more than on an average December Monday.

The extra aircraft was pressed into service again yesterday, with two Gatwick rotations.

An Aurigny spokeswoman said the vast majority of its customers had now returned home following Storm Darragh, thanks to the extra flights.

‘There is also sufficient seat availability to and from the UK for the remainder of this week for new bookings.’

On Sunday night passengers were warned there were no available seats on services from London to Guernsey until Friday.

But as the extra services reduced the pressure, there were seats on all yesterday afternoon’s London flights, as well as last night’s Southampton service.

The Dash 8 was working alongside Aurigny ATRs G-OGFC and G-ORAI, as well as long-leased G-PEMB. Aurigny’s third ATR – G-OATR – has been in France for maintenance in recent weeks. Aurigny’s newest long-leased ATR entered service last Tuesday and has undertaken four days of service, but was not operating yesterday.
