Boxing Day Dip raises more than £10,000
MORE than £10,000 is expected to have been raised from this year’s Boxing Day swim, early indications have shown.
Hundreds turned out for the annual post-Christmas dip at Cobo to raise money for the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
Donations are still coming in, but the total is already looking promising.
Home chairman Rob Shepherd said this was its biggest fundraiser of the year.
‘The funds raised will make a lasting impact, helping us maintain the vital care we provide for our residents and those seeking respite services,’ he said.
Many people were in fancy dress, with many Santa hats on display. Individuals, families, and businesses threw themselves into supporting the good cause. This included the local branch of the Northern Trust, whose team raised a remarkable £2,100 by donating £100 for every minute they spent in the sea.
The event is sponsored by Skipton.
Skipton International’s chief commercial officer Charlotte Dunsterville thanked everyone for getting involved.
‘The enthusiasm and generosity displayed at the Skipton Boxing Day Dip never fails to inspire and this event truly showcases the best of Guernsey,’ she said.
‘We are proud to support the Guernsey Cheshire Home and extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and donors who made this event a success.’
The Guernsey Cheshire Home relies entirely on fundraising and donations to cover its annual operating costs, offering care to individuals living with disabilities, such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, and permanent paralysis.
