MORE than 450 Guernsey companies may be struck off because they have failed to file an annual return at the Guernsey Registry.

The figure is considered to be in line with previous years. It is expected that half will complete formalities to remain on the register following a warning.

Helen Proudlove-Gains, deputy registrar of companies, pictured, said that those companies had already been reminded once and warned of the implications of failing to file the annual validation and filing fee, which can range from £100 to £1,000 but is free for registered charities.

Following publication of the list of companies listed for strike-off, they have all been written to again.

Failure to respond in any way will see those companies struck off by the registry in early May, unless a third party owed monies, typically the States Income Tax, intervenes.
