The badge will be used on the British manufacturer's Super GT

The DBS Superleggera will replace the outgoing Vanquish, with further details on Aston’s range-topping supercar due to be released in the second quarter of this year.

The term ‘Superleggera’ will be applied to the car’s bonnet, as shown in a teaser image revealed this week. According to Aston Martin, the new DBS Superleggera will have ‘the highest levels of performance, craftsmanship and design’.

Marek Reichmann, chief creative officer for Aston Martin, said: ‘When you hear the name DBS Superleggera, you know what it is. It’s the definitive Aston Martin Super GT.

‘It’s an icon, a statement and this one will be no different. We’ve pushed the boundaries of performance and design to give this car a distinct character and ensure it’s worthy of the heritage and weight that this name carries.’

The new model is likely to step away from the previous car’s grand-touring tendencies, and favour a more hardcore, performance-orientated approach. Though a powertrain has yet to be confirmed, it’s expected that the DBS Superleggera will feature the brand’s latest generation of V12 engine. Currently utilised in the DB11, it’s likely that the DBS Superleggera’s powertrain will be uprated to provide more power and offer improved acceleration.

The term Superleggera – or ‘super light’ – was used by coachbuilders Touring; a company which worked together with Aston Martin on cars such as the DB4 and DB5 to make vehicles as light as possible.
