Why should we help criminals?

HAVING read yet another letter from Martin Gavet ('We must fight fear and terrorism with compassion', 2 October) concerning the present refugee crisis the world now has, possibly if he could find a few minutes in his no doubt busy schedule to read what has happened at Calais within the last few days he might come to realize this is not the sort of behaviour we neither want or expect on Guernsey.

I wish to inform him that these so-called suffering people were yet again totally responsible for violently disrupting Eurotunnel services, in what was described as an organised attack, staff were knocked to the ground and stones were deliberately thrown at them.

A Eurotunnel spokesman said, 'It's a massive invasion and intrusion by a very large and co-ordinated group of migrants. It's clearly an organised attack when it comes in such a large number. There were over 100 in this one group. They arrived together and in a well-organised manner broke through the fences and clearly knew where they were going.'

So come on, let's hear your religious excuses as to why GuernseyBridge 2Calais must help these criminals, because that is what they are. Just take the time to ask the French people who live in that area their opinion, or do you avoid doing that? I repeat once again, yes, the Syrian people need both financial and military aid from Europe, but take heed of what action Russia might take.

Concerning any refugees coming to reside on our island, this is a decision that only Guernsey residents should and must make. We are not slaves owned by the UK and any decisions should be made here on Guernsey by Guernsey residents with no interference from England or any religious body.
