North's past is worth protecting

YES, yes, yes, I agree wholeheartedly with the Guernsey Press editorial of 11 January. ('Keeping history on tap')

I am involved with the Delancey Conservation Campaign. We are trying to persuade the Environment Department to reinstate the Delancey area as a Conservation Area in the Island Development Plan (still in draft). We fear the area's layers of historical, architectural and environmental past will be lost, forgotten or built upon without protection.

The north of the island is not an urban mass best forgotten, there are some absolute gems of great interest which, as the writer of the Opinion column says 'can be protected and live on to serve the changing needs and modern demands of our island'. In fact, one could argue the north of the island has seen so much action in the past, it is the most interesting part.

Please have a look at our Facebook page 'Delancey Conservation Campaign'.

I'm looking forward to the Red Lion re-opening and to sampling Richard Cann's food again. I just know it will be very good.
