TWO days after conquering the Jersey hill, Jos Goodyear became the fastest man up Le Val des Terres – but no-one was surprised.

Goodyear, 31, is unlikely to win this year's British Hill Climb Championship but he will be forever remembered in the Channel Islands for his brilliant driving and record-breaking times of 2012.

Goodyear trimmed exactly a quarter of a second off the outright hill record set by Martin Groves two years ago, posting a remarkable 27.36 in qualifying for the second of the day's two top-12 runoffs.

His efforts left everyone shaking their head in disbelief and the driver was certainly glad he came when other leading drivers in the national series gave the expensive hop across the Channel a miss. 'The hills are awesome,' he said with the new record in his pocket, 'but this one even more than Bouley.'
