FOOTES LANE'S athletics track yesterday started a two-month closure for refurbishment and repair work to take place.
Culture and Leisure, which runs the facility on behalf of the States of Guernsey, is cleaning, repairing and protectively re-spraying all sections of the track.
Built for the 2003 Island Games, the project ironically comes at the same time as a youthful Guernsey athletics team were departing for the 2013 edition.
Although C&L haven't yet released the exact cost of the work, it is something Guernsey Island Amateur Athletics Club president Alun Williams is grateful for.
'We are very appreciative of the commitment that is being shown by Culture and Leisure to the future of athletics at Footes Lane,' he said.
