FORMER Muratti man Grant Chalmers was on the victory podium in France as a category winner at the annual Duo Normande.

He and Aaron Bailey won the unlicensed category with a time of 1hr 19min. 11sec. and the former professional footballer reckoned that in some ways he has never been fitter, despite having reached the grand old age of 40.

'Aerobically, I'm fitter than I probably ever have been.

'Apart from the joints,' he added.

This was Bailey's second time on the Duo Normande podium and Chalmers' debut event.

The latter has certainly impressed since taking up cycling two years previously and once again was incredibly strong during the 54km event, and coupled with Bailey's experience, it made for a strong team.

Chalmers (pictured) is revelling in the chance to extend his sports career.

'It's easier on my body and I don't get a reaction to the training. It's my sort of sport to be honest - a very individual thing.'
