'We will go £3m. over budget'

HEALTH and Social Services minister Hunter Adam anticipates his department overspending its 2010 budget by about £3m.

However, he did not expect to spend more than it did in 2009.

Deputy Mike Hadley put him on the spot during question time in the States yesterday when he asked about the department's 'runaway expenditure'.

Deputy Adam (pictured) said that was misleading. 'I must first make it clear that HSSD is not faced with runaway expenditure. That statement implies that there is no understanding of what is happening with expenditure within HSSD, and that is simply not true.'

He was pleased to inform the Assembly that the predicted total spend within HSSD, at present, was no greater than in 2009.
