ITS OWN Tree of Joy and live music gave the Bridge a warm Christmas feeling, but with only a few people around to enjoy it shop owners are hoping more will take advantage of future late openings.

Shops stayed open until 9pm yesterday for the first late-night shopping of the Christmas season.

Ray & Scott Jewellers co-owner Jeff Fox said business had been steady.

'It's been a slow start, but it usually picks up the closer you get to Christmas,' he said

'We have our own Tree of Joy for the first time, which we are calling the Northern Lights, and live music, there's a good atmosphere.'
