THE Channel Island champions' quest for a new first-team coach is on hold as their first choice nervously awaits the all-clear after major surgery.

Although St Martin's are reluctant to say anything on the matter, James Le Gallez had been lined up to replace Colin Fallaize (pictured) as senior coach when the former takes up a new role within Guernsey FC.

Le Gallez, 31, was pencilled in to head a three-man coaching team also comprising Alfie Le Page and, in a purely advisory role, former Murati goalkeeper and Vale Rec stalwart, Chris Hamon.

But, as Le Gallez confirmed yesterday, his recovery from major spinal surgery has been slow.
