Buckets take oil and less water from Torrey Canyon quarry

USING buckets to clear the remaining oil from the Torrey Canyon quarry has proved the best solution because it minimised the amount of water extracted with oil, Public Service has said.

And the department confirmed that around £30,000 was spent on removing the oil in 2011, with many more thousands spent over the years.

Workmen were shown using the hands-on approach for the first time on the BBC 1 programme Countryfile, aired on Sunday evening.

PSD said in a statement that the method was chosen by its contractors and would be carried out when staff were available and the weather permitted.
