OATLANDS owner Peter Kaufman Kent is frustrated by 'the lack of consultation' in the planning process after his proposal to build an equestrian centre and museum at nearby vinery sites was refused.

Environment rejected the application on the grounds that the proposed site – Les Gigands and Oatlands vineries – was in an area of high landscape value and the development would have an adverse effect on the visual quality and landscape character of the area.

Mr Kaufman Kent, pictured, felt let down by the decision. 'I am disappointed to see that yet another attempt to invest in Guernsey's tourist industry has been squashed without any further consultation with us.

'I strongly believe that opportunities to invest in the infrastructure of Guernsey such as this should be encouraged. Our politicians say they wish to encourage private investment in tourism to help rebalance the economy but when we try to do so we are faced with so many negative planning barriers.'
