A DECISION to create a new 'youth commission' could open the doors for young people who will be the leaders and entrepreneurs at the heart of Guernsey's economy in years to come, the Institute of Directors has said.

Chairwoman Anne Ewing, pictured, said the business group supported the agreement between Education and the Youth Partnership for Guernsey and Alderney.

The deal means youth services will be delivered solely by the partnership from now on.

Education, which used to run the service in-house, will give the YPGA a £550,000 grant each year. The new commission will then have to source extra funds from the business community.
