THE neighbourhood police team have a new member – a Vespa has been given to them for officers to use.

The new scooter matches the other neighbourhood community vehicles with its red colour and police logo. The Vespa has been sponsored by Millard & Co Ltd.

Director Clinton Millard said Sergeant John Tostevin had approached them with the idea.

PC Gary Ashford said that as well as him, two other officers will be using the scooter – PC Lisa McMillan and PC Simon Hamon for their neighbourhood work.

‘I think it is a great idea that Millard’s have helped – the Vespas are iconic.’

So that's what a scooter looks like without L-Plates

'Plodrophenia' - completely lost on the nippers but still the best GP headline of the last 30 years....

Wow, that Vespa must be quite a powerhouse if PCs Ashford. McMillan and Hamon will all be using it for their neighbourhood work. Not sure if the law allows three on a bike and I am equally unsure how it will cope with chasing down an unruly testosterone fueled yoof after a night on the pop. "Stop right where you are or I will dismount and chase after you...."

Excellent piece of PR for Millards and good on them for being so community minded.

It reminds me of pc plod chasing noddy with a motor pusher.

I wonder if its been tuned up to chase behind the kids to school?

Well done Millards for sponsoring the police force with a more economical machine for policing our side streets

Well done Millards......The only thing I would say is could it not have been white to fit in with the polices usual colours, being red is more like the fire brigade.

Hamiee

I hope they put at least 6 wing mirrors on it!So the Police are Mods not Rockers then eh!

Johnneh

I think the red was to match the two other "community police" vehicles Mark
