HOME minister Jonathan Le Tocq has revealed the board was in favour of releasing details of the AFR settlement, but changed its mind after receiving legal and staff advice.

He was quizzed this morning by a Scrutiny panel which was focussing on the non-disclosure of the settlement which followed an illegal police raid on the advocate firm's offices two years ago.

It was the first public hearing of its type.

At one point Deputy Le Tocq, pictured and the Chief of Police Patrick Rice steadfastly refused to answer the panel's questions because they thought it was going outside its remit.

The hearing lasted two-and-a-quarter hours.

The settlement was covered by the States insurers, with around £10,000 of taxpayer's money being spent of legal fees.
