£30,000 and the bar manager are missing

POLICE are investigating allegations that a former KGV Sports and Social Club employee stole thousands of pounds before leaving the island, it has emerged.

It is understood that around £20,000 to £30,000 has been taken from the establishment but neither the police nor the King George V management committee will confirm the missing sum.

However, the police said it was a 'serious' and 'significant' theft allegation.

Confirmation of an investigation came just days after rumours circulated about the employee and the alleged crime.

'We can confirm the bar manager is no longer in the employment of the KGV and that the police are helping with investigations over missing money,' said management chairman Jeff Guilbert.
