GUERNSEY Police has outgrown its Town headquarters and would welcome a move to a central base shared by all the emergency services, its deputy chief officer has said.

Ian Morellec said the pros and cons had to be considered with any major move, but its current Hospital Lane building was no longer fit for purpose.

His comments follow the release of plans for an ambitious property sell-off by the States, which could lead to major housing developments and all emergency services coming together under one roof at St Andrew's Quarry.

Twelve States-owned sites have been identified for sale, including the police and fire stations.

St John Ambulance and Rescue Service chief officer Jon Beausire was less enthusiastic.

He said the service would consider any tabled proposals, but certain aspects of its work would not be suited to a joint HQ.
