REFURBISHMENT work on the St Peter Port Constables' Office could finally begin in October, but the parish officials have still not found a temporary home.

Planning for the scheme got under way four years ago, after parishioners rejected a project which would have created a purpose-built facility at Les Cotils.

Senior constable Barry Cash said it had taken two redesigns to get the right scheme in place. 'Building control permission was granted only two weeks ago,' he said.

'We decided we were not going to look for temporary accommodation until we had planning permission and we had building control.' The hunt is now on for a site to house the officials for at least a year, while the work takes place.
