PROJECT Proteus has yet to receive official backing from Deputy Kevin Stewart's department, it has been confirmed.

But Commerce and Employment board members have indicated they were broadly supportive of the deputy's 'own vision', which aims to put Guernsey in the top 10 of technologically advanced democracies

Their support follows concern raised by Deputy Matt Fallaize following a response to written questions in which the department said it did not have ownership of the project.

He claimed without it Proteus was a 'hill of beans'.

Deputy minister Al Brouard said since the start of its term of office the board has highlighted the importance of information and communication technology for the island and the need to ensure Guernsey was well served in this area.

He said Project Proteus was Deputy Stewart's vision, some of which would be implemented by the Policy Council, some of which would be implemented by the department.

But Deputy Brouard admitted that the board had not seen the detail of the vision or discussed any of its core proposals.
