Neknomination, in which participants then nominate others to copy them within 24 hours, has been linked to the deaths of two men in Ireland.

Many islanders have been taking part in the game on Facebook, downing various cocktails that include vodka, beer and cider.

Drug and Alcohol Strategy coordinator Andrea Nightingale, pictured, said there were many risks associated to the craze.

'People who drink large quantities of alcohol in a short space of time are at much greater risk of falls and accidents, so if you combine alcohol with outdoing each other in dangerous situations it's a real, real concern,' she said.

'The likelihood of alcohol poisoning in these situations is also really high. The really sad thing is there have already been deaths and serious injuries associated with this game.'
