Dillon, who had his own Facebook page, was pulled out dead from under the Herm Trident when the vessel berthed near the Liberation Monument on Wednesday.

It is believed Dillon had got caught up in the flooding and high tides on Tuesday night.

The five-year-old had spent the majority of his time at Paint and Sons' Jewellers while in the evenings he was a regular at Moore's Hotel.

Paul Paint of Paint's Jewellers said the feline would be sadly missed.

'We believe he died on Tuesday – we know it was definitely him, unfortunately, as he was micro-chipped with our details,' said Mr Paint.

'He must have got confused and was washed in.'

He said all his staff had been very upset.
