Drunk teen's arson sees boat fan's dreams go up in smoke

A CLASSIC boat fan's dreams went up in smoke when Keenan Manning set fire to a car at a Vale vinery, the Magistrate's Court heard.

The boat, a Dell Quay Ranger restoration project with some 200 litres of fuel on board, was, like the car, damaged beyond repair.

Manning, 19, a convicted burglar and thief, admitted arson and assaulting PC Chris Dragun.

Taking the accused's five-month remand in custody into account, Judge Philip Robey imposed suspended prison sentences that mean Manning will be under supervision for three years.

Judge Robey said it remained unclear why Manning has started the fire but that was what caused him most concern as it had posed a substantial risk to the emergency services.
