The department has confirmed that it is looking at reinstating the movie theatre in response to popular demand.

Culture and Leisure has gone out to tender to try to find an operator to run the cinema within the centre's theatre.

'Expression of interest has been invited to ascertain if there may be a suitable private operator that would undertake commercial operation of the cinema,' said a department spokesman.

'The department carried out its own research last year which, among other information received from customers, gave positive feedback to see a cinema once again at the centre.

'Commercial operation of the cinema would benefit the department's efforts to help raise income and would deliver an additional service which would be of benefit to the community.'

The estimated start date for the three-year contract on offer is 1 July.
