'Almighty crash like metal hitting road' - neighbour hears noise as plane crashed

AN 'ALMIGHTY crash' that sounded like metal smashing onto a road was the first thing a man living near the site of last night's plane crash knew of the incident.

Bas Brehaut, 74, lives just two houses down from where the light aircraft came crashing down into a derelict greenhouse.

'All of a sudden I just heard this almighty crash,' he said.

'The sound was just something you never usually hear and at first I thought it was a load of metal that had fallen out of a lorry and onto the road outside – that is what it sounded like.

'Then I saw so many fire engines racing up the road and it was only when I looked outside that I saw of the wing of the plane sticking out of the greenhouse.

'I could just about see the wing because it was buried so deep into the greenhouse.

'The greenhouse is derelict, so it's going to be a heck of a mess.'

Therapist Tammy Hollowell-Dyke said the whole family, who have lived next to Forest Road Garage for the past six years, was shaken up when they heard what had happened.

'I must admit I was a bit shaken up too, but thankfully nobody is seriously injured,' she said.
