La Vallette alcohol ban 'should be made permanent'

A CALL has been made for a ban on drinking alcohol in public at La Vallette to be made permanent.

The alcohol-free zone at La Vallette is effective from now until the end of October.

PC Robbie Dover, pictured, from the neighbourhood police team, said the ban coincided with the end of term for schools.

He said anyone found with an open container of drink would be asked by officers to dispose of it.

'We would give them the opportunity to leave,' he said.

PC Dover said more serious action can be taken against those who continually disobey the rules.

'It is just a minority who spoil it,' he said.

PC Dover said if anyone had concerns or saw people drinking in the area, they could report it to the station and police would be sent to the scene.

Marita Iversen, who co-owns Guernsey Aquarium, thought the ban was a good idea but that it should be in place all year round.
