But the department added that there were no major problems with the £200,000 project.

It was expected that the work would finish by the end of this month.

'The works are progressing very well with no additional problems and due for completion a week or so later than originally anticipated,' said a spokesman.

'This is a large roofing project so some flex in timings is to be expected. However, the slight delay has not affected the cost, which has come in on budget.'

He said the department was pleased with how work had gone.

The roof was last replaced in 1991.

Work started in July as the bitumen roof on the hall had come to the end of its life.

The centre had experienced some minor leakage and general deterioration.
