But CT Plus has defended the situation, stating that it was industry practice to carry a limited float.

John King, pictured, is a regular bus traveller who makes around six journeys a day. Usually he carries his Ormer card, but when he wanted to get the bus from the Rohais to Cobo with his daughter for an afternoon at the beach, he discovered he had forgotten the card.

Instead he took £10 out from the cash machine and went to catch the bus.

But when he got on board, he was told that the driver did not have enough change and Mr King could either have a credit note – which could be cashed at the bus terminus – or get off the bus.

A CT Plus spokeswoman said it was industry practice to carry a limited float, so passengers were encouraged to carry the correct change.
