'Disappointment and surprise' as Condor's chief steps down

CONDOR chief executive James Fulford resigned yesterday, in what has been described as a 'disappointing and surprise' announcement.

Mr Fulford informed workers during the morning that he had stood down from the position he has held since January last year.

He leaves the role after a challenging period for the ferry company, during which time it has battled with French unions over terms and conditions and has seen its high-speed Commodore Clipper temporarily out-of-action after it hit the seabed.

The company also faced an uncertain and drawn-out waiting game to secure the longer-term agreement it wanted with the States of Guernsey and Jersey, before it could secure a new high-speed vessel.

Mr Fulford said no one was more proud than him of what they had achieved. 'But, for me, the time has come to move on to a new challenge,' he said.
