Tory party conference 'useful for relationships'

ATTENDING the Conservative Party conference is an investment in Guernsey's relationship with the UK as the country moves into 'general election mode', the chief minister has said.

'It's certainly an interesting atmosphere at the Conservative Party conference after the events over the weekend, but the conversations with conservative MPs and MEPs that I have had have demonstrated that the focus is very much on economic growth,' he said.

He added the opportunity was therefore for Guernsey and the Channel Islands to show how they could contribute to that growth and ensure it was understood that regulations and legislation that were bad for the islands' finance sector and economy were also detrimental to the UK's economy.
