PLANS to upgrade the harbour are the bare essentials and not the 'Gucci wish list', the harbour master has said.

Speaking at a presentation about the £80m. investment plans, Captain Chad Murray said the harbours had reached such a stage that simply allowing them to de-grade further while still expecting them to remain useful was not an option.

With the plans presented and drawn up, the only item left to decide was where all the money would come from, he said.

'This needs to happen, we cannot wait another 10 years.

'We are self-funding, we need to generate this money.

'Historically there have been other plans, but they have not progressed for whatever reason. But this needs to happen.' he said.

'This is not the Gucci wish list, this is the fundamentals, the essentials to keep the island going and supplied.'
